To be in Trancoso means you have an intimate encounter with nature and a healthy time full of pleasures.
Entrance gateway of the portuguese navigators in 1500, the old village named São João Batista dos Índios, was founded by jesuits in 1586. This little paradise was “rediscovered” as a hippie community in 70s, when lots of houses were settled around the central square, reminding an Indigenous village.
The village developed around a rectangular lawn, called Square of Trancoso and is located at the top of a plateau, surrounded by almond and mango trees, where there is also a beautiful Church of São João ,built in 1650. Despite of the tourism development and the appearance of inns and restaurants, the place is still small and cozy, with the real sense of a tropical paradise.
Most beaches have calm water, warm, transparent and nearly wild. Nature is present everywhere: cliffs, coconut trees, mangroves and rivers form a stunning scenery.
